  • Displaying Black Grouse on a rainy morning the Lek, Cairngorms National Park. These little flutter jumps are a major part of the action at the lek and a behaviour I was eager to capture. The lek is one of the most incredible wildlife experiences I have ever witnessed, the sounds through the dark are out of this world!

  • Curlew in typical moorland habitat. Eastern Moors, Derbyshire - Peak District Wildlife Photography. Moorland Curlew, Derbyshire, Peak District National Park, UK. The curlew is one of the most distinctive and recognisable moorland birds. Hearing their evocative call is a true sign that summer has arrived on the high pastures. For this image I used a slightly larger depth of field to ensure the summer grasses and bilberry were in focus, including some habitat.

  • A common buzzard staring straight down the lens. Derbyshire, UK. After an incredibly early start I got to the hide in darkness and settled in the hide ready for the birds to come in. As food is only provided sporadically, ensuring the buzzards don't become dependent, the birds were very much wild and visits were few and far between. Nevertheless it was a great experience watching this distinctive raptor swoop down and tear into the roadkill, unaware of us aside from the strange clicking sound coming from the wooden box!
