Robin in the Snow

A Robin (Erithacus rubecula) photographed in the snow at Over Owler Tor in the Peak District National Park. After photographing the sunrise I was on my way back to the car when this friendly little robin started following me, as I sat down to get some pictures he hopped up onto my boot and looked right up at me. Thankfully I had some seeds in my pocket so I put a few out on the ground and photographed him as he hungrily pecked up the seeds. Winter can be a very hard time for our garden birds so do remember to keep you feeders topped up.

Robin

“The UK’s favourite bird – with its bright red breast it is familiar throughout the year and especially at Christmas! Males and females look identical, and young birds have no red breast and are spotted with golden brown. Robins sing nearly all year round and despite their cute appearance, they are aggressively territorial and are quick to drive away intruders. They will sing at night next to street lights.”
