Higger Tor – August at the KitKat Stones

August at the KitKat stones on Higger Tor, looking towards the iron age hill fort of Carl Wark. Peak District National Park. Despite the lack of light, the moody overcast skies and very low winds allowed me to do some focus stacking. Ensuring the foreground heather and hills in the distance were all tack sharp. By using a circular polariser I was also able to bring out the purples of the heather, giving it some extra vibrance. I typically avoid overcast days, but I think it suits this scene perfectly!

About Higger Tor:

Higger Tor, also known as Higgar Tor, is a gritstone outcrop in the Dark Peak area of the Peak District National Park. The summit provides panoramic views over the national park, the most famous of which looks down towards the iron age hill fort of Carl Wark.
