Burano houses

Colourful Burano houses reflected in one of the many picturesque canals running through the historic streets. We visited Burano on a beautifully sunny clear blue sky day, these conditions are not always best for photography, but the bright blue sky added another variation of colour to the multicoloured Burano houses.

About Burano Houses:

Burano is a small island located in the Northern part of the Venetian Lagoon, most famous for its array of colourful fishermen’s cottages. Alongside fishing, the island is also famous for its lacework, much like the neighbouring Murano is famous for glasswork. Delicate lace has been made on the island since the 16th Century and on warm summer days ladies can be seen sitting in front of the multicoloured houses weaving fine lace. It’s well worth a trip to the island when visiting Venice itself, being just a 40 minute Vaporetto ride from the city and included in the prepaid ACTV travel passes. In modern times the main income for the islands 3,000 occupants is tourism, attracting hundreds of visitors every day to see the picturesque canals and rainbow houses.
