Birchen Edge Sunset – Peak District Photography

A stunning sunset at Birchen Edge earlier this Autumn. Whilst I would have liked a bit more cloud, the soft pastel tones and burst of warm light through the valley made the visit more than worthwhile.

About Birchen Edge:

Birchen Edge is popular with walkers and climbers alike, offering stunning views down over the nearby Chatsworth Estate and beyond. On the edge stands the Nelson’s Monument; a 3-metre high carved gritstone pillar with a ball on top. The monument was erected in 1810 by local businessman John Brightman, a resident of the nearby village of Baslow, in honour of Lord Nelson . Alongside the column, three gritstone formations called the “Ship Rocks” just back from the edge itself have been carved with the names of three of Nelson’s ships: Victory, Defiance and Royal Soverin.
