  • Slow-worm from above. Derbyshire, Peak District National Park. Every Spring for the last couple of years I have focused on adding to my British reptile and amphibian portfolio. Some species have been relatively easy to locate and photograph, but time and time again slow-worms had eluded me, despite extensive research and help from various experts. After countless unsuccessful trips again one year I finally found this adult slow-worm in a white peak dale. To many of you this may not be the most interesting or exciting subject but I'm thrilled to have finally seen one. Perseverance really does pay!

  • Common frog on mossy bank. I spotted this frog crossing a busy logging track, so I picked it up out of harms away and placed it on the mossy edge of the spawning pool. It sat happily for some time, allowing me to capture a few images before it hopped into the water. Derbyshire, Peak District NP.

  • Common Toad Mating Embrace. Male toads often hitch a ride to the breeding pools on the backs of the much larger females. Whilst it may seem lazy, only around 1 in 5 males manage to breed, so this technique ensures the male has the best chance of mating with his chosen female. Derbyshire Peak District National Park.

  • Viviparous Lizard basking in some late afternoon sunshine the Peak District. With no sense of scale these look a lot like fearsome Komodo dragons but are in fact only 10-15cm long!
