  • Mountain Hare Close up. After spending well over an hour gradually inching my way forward, I managed to build up a good level of trust with this hare until it became so comfortable with my presence it was happy for me to get close enough to completely fill the frame. Derbyshire, Peak District National Park.

  • Baby blue tit. Whilst up in Northumberland we spent some time photographing a range of woodland birds. Our birds are under a lot of pressure during the spring and summer, providing for their demanding young. This blue tits overworked parent was looking pretty scruffy to say the least!

  • Nuthatch in classic pose on a mossy old tree trunk.Derbyshire, Peak District National Park. Nuthatches are one of our most distinctive native birds, found almost exclusively in woodland. I followed a pair as they collected the moss from the gnarled old trees to build their nest.
