Incredible India
India is one of the most biodiverse regions in the world. The country has seven Natural World Heritage sites, 103 national parks, 18 bio-reserves and more than 535 wildlife sanctuaries.
The Indian subcontinent is home to many rare and unique species. The evergreen rainforests of the Western Ghats in Southern India shelter endemic lion tailed macaques and nilgiri langurs. In the North, snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas are home to snow leopards and Himalayan wolves. Over to the West, the dry dusty deserts and deciduous forests of Gujarat host Indian wild ass and Asiatic lions. The lush green flood plains and mangroves of the far Eastern states are inhabited by Indian rhinoceros, crocodiles and India’s only ape; the Hoolock Gibbon. Central India is famed for having the highest tiger density anywhere in the world.
In total India is home to 2000+ species of birds, 500 mammals, and 520 species of reptile!
