    • Wide Angle Little Owlet. You don't always need a long lens for wildlife photography! This curious little owlet staring down the lens was taken at just 20mm on full frame. To achieve this image I placed my second camera at ground level and manually prefocused the lens. I then retreated back the car and waited to trigger the set up remotely. It didn't take long before an owlet came to investigate, but promptly hopped up onto the camera and began nibbling the cable. Not exactly what I had planned! Next it was the beanbags turn to get a thorough investigation, before finally hopping in front of the lens and allowing me to capture some images. Using my car as a mobile hide I am able to get extremely close to this family of little owls by the side of a quiet country lane. Little owls are creatures of habit and typically favour the same perches and routines, so I regularly see them on the same perches.

    • Red Grouse Habitat, Derbyshire, Peak District National Park. Red grouse shown in moorland habitat perched on his favourite rock. One of the advantages of doing an in depth project with the grouse has meant the birds have become so habituated to my presence that I could shoot this with a 16-35 wide angle lens.  This image was taken during my long term red grouse project where I spent several months photographing red grouse as they warmed up to the breeding season. Grouse are often very flighty and nervous, but after  spending so much time with the same birds some of the grouse got so used to my presence they ignored me and got on with their day allowing me to capture much more natural behaviour.

    • In some areas the pelicans were so habituated that they would come within a couple of metres of us, allowing for some wide angle images. Here a particularly confident pelican was reaching out to grab a fish from the bucket next to me. Lake Kerkini, Northern Greece.

    • This inquisitive little red squirrel wasn't phased by me or my camera at all. Rather than keep using my long telephoto lens, this gave me the opportunity to get a different perspective with my wide angle lens. This image was taken at 18mm on full frame, so the squirrel was just an inch or two from the front of the lens! This wide angle image highlights their amazing ability to scale a tree headfirst thanks to their double-jointed ankles.
