    • Stag Antler Ornaments. During the Autumn rut the stags regularly rub their antlers through vegetation hoping to attach some to their antlers, behaviour that is believed to make them look more intimidating.

    • Wide Angle Little Owlet. You don't always need a long lens for wildlife photography! This curious little owlet staring down the lens was taken at just 20mm on full frame. To achieve this image I placed my second camera at ground level and manually prefocused the lens. I then retreated back the car and waited to trigger the set up remotely. It didn't take long before an owlet came to investigate, but promptly hopped up onto the camera and began nibbling the cable. Not exactly what I had planned! Next it was the beanbags turn to get a thorough investigation, before finally hopping in front of the lens and allowing me to capture some images. Using my car as a mobile hide I am able to get extremely close to this family of little owls by the side of a quiet country lane. Little owls are creatures of habit and typically favour the same perches and routines, so I regularly see them on the same perches.

    • Little Owlet Feeding. When the parents bring food to the owlets they get incredibly excited, flapping their wings like mad. This can make it pretty tricky to get a good angle without the wings blocking the view. After several failed frames I eventually managed to get this clear view of the moment. It's such a privilege for me to be able to watch behaviour like this up close. Derbyshire, Peak District NP.

    • Moorbird. Male Red Grouse, with raised eyebrow wattles in moorland habitat. Derbyshire, Peak District National Park. This image was taken as part of an ongoing long term red grouse project. Grouse are often very flighty and nervous, but after spending so much time with the same birds, many of the grouse have become so relaxed that I am able to capture more natural behaviours and a range of unusual images.

    • Preening Red Grouse. Male Red Grouse preening on top of a boulder in warm evening light. Derbyshire, Peak District National Park. This particular bird has a real personality and is such a poser that I decided to nickname him Famous. This image was taken during my long term red grouse project where I spent several months photographing red grouse as they warmed up to the breeding season. Grouse are often very flighty and nervous, but after  spending so much time with the same birds some of the grouse got so used to my presence they ignored me and got on with their day allowing me to capture much more natural behaviour and a range of unusual images.
