A bar-tailed godwit runs along through the surf on a sandy Lincolnshire beach. Over the winter months hundreds of thousands of these birds pass through our country from their breeding grounds in the artic regions of Scandanavia and Siberia.

About the bar-tailed godwit:

The bar-tailed godwit is a long-billed wading bird which winters in the UK. Typically seen in its grey-brown winter plumage, they become a rich chestnut colour during the breeding period. Bar-tailed godwits breed in the Arctic regions of Scandinavia and pass through the UK in their hundreds of thousands stopping off here for the winter.
