Peak District Wildlife
Alongside the amazing landscapes, the varied habitat of the Peak District boasts some very unique wildlife opportunities. Two examples are the water vole and mountain hare. Despite the massive nationwide decline of the water vole, the Peak District still has some flourishing water vole populations, offering a great opportunity to photograph this well loved little animal. The native mountain hare can also only be seen outside of Scotland in the Peak District National Park, providing a very accessible way to see this extremely rare and shy mammal
What can I expect?
From close up detailed portraits to environmental and behavioural images my wildlife photography workshops will show you how to capture a stunning portfolio of images of a wide range of subjects.
I will teach you the essential fieldcraft and technical skills needed to get close without causing disturbance. I will also explain how to recognise different behaviours and habits so that you leave with a much better understanding of the wildlife.
Throughout the day we may have the opportunity to photograph a huge range of wildlife including; water voles, lizards, rabbits, various birds of prey, red grouse, golden plover, lapwings, curlew, cuckoos, stonechats, wheatear, brown hares, little owls, pheasants, geese, mountain hares, wrens and much more!
How long do your workshops last?
Unlike many other photographers that insist on you booking a full day, I run my workshops on an hourly basis (minimum 2 hour booking). This means I can tailor the session to your personal requirements. The day can be just as long or as short as you would like it to be!
How much does it cost?
£25 p/h for one to one tuition
Discounted ‘day rates’ and small group options are also available.
Short to medium walks along mostly flat but sometimes uneven and boggy ground.
A 500mm lens or 300mm with teleconverters is ideal (or equivalent on crop/bridge camera).
Due to the low angles we may be shooting at, a beanbag is advised.
There may also be opportunities for landscape photography, so a wide angle or standard zoom lens and a sturdy tripod are recommended.
Camouflage is not essential for this workshop, however neutral colours – browns and greens are advisable.
Wellies or waterproof walking boots are essential and waterproof clothing is strongly recommended.
